Inside our self we might think we are all the same. But for those who work in the business industry is amazing how different cultures are. This is very important to understand because we make decisions based on how we operate in our country.
The Geert Hofstede's research can help us to understand how to interact whit other cultures reducing the level of frustration, anxiety, and concern.
He made a research in sixty seven countries and he classified they results on four different categories:
A) A) Power Distance Index it talks about the degree of equality, or inequality, between people in the country's society.
B) Individualism (IDV) focuses on the degree the society reinforces individual or collective achievement and interpersonal relationships.
C) Masculinity (MAS) focuses on the degree the society reinforces, or does not reinforce, the traditional masculine work role model of male achievement, control, and power
D) Uncertainty Avoidance Index (UAI) focuses on the level of tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity within the society
There are many disadvantages of Geert Hofstede's research because he generalize all the people of the country, and one important thing of the culture is that everyone is diferent.
He made a quantitative research this means that he classified a culture just by the numbers he got.
This research shouldn’t be apply literally in all the circumstances you should interpreter the research in a specific situation.
Reflextion:
I think is very interesting to understand the differences between countries because it will let you make better decisions and feel more confidence on what are you doing.
